1. About Teacherwave
Teacherwave is the software your tutor uses to run their teaching. It is where you ask for lessons, join the classroom, do the work they set you and see how you are getting on.
Teacherwave is not a tutoring service and does not employ your tutor. We do not choose your tutor, do not check their qualifications, have no say in what they charge and do not teach you. Your arrangement is with them.
There is no directory here and no search. You cannot find a tutor through Teacherwave — you are here because one invited you.
2. Who These Terms Apply To
These Student Terms apply to you if you use Teacherwave as a student, or as the parent or guardian of a student. They supplement our general Terms and Conditions; where the two conflict in respect of students, these Student Terms prevail.
When you first sign in, and again whenever the rules change materially, the Platform shows a short summary of them and asks you to accept it before you continue. Accepting that summary is accepting these Terms.
They do not affect your rights under consumer law, which apply whatever this document says.
3. Joining a Tutor and Your Account
You can only create a student account through a tutor's invite link. There is no other way to sign up, and an account always belongs to at least one tutor from the moment it is created. You can register with an email address and password, or by signing in with a Google account.
You may have more than one tutor. Each invites you with their own link, and adding one changes nothing about the others. Each of your tutors sees only their own lessons, work and records with you — not another tutor's.
A tutor who teaches you on another platform may invite you with a different link. With that tutor you have no calendar, no lessons and no messages here: you cannot ask for a lesson or be booked into one with them, you are not put into their group classes, you cannot message them here (privately or in a group's chat), and you are not shown their payment button. Learning plans, assessments, report cards and your progress work as normal. Your tutor can change this, and it applies to that tutor only — section 8 describes booking with a tutor you do have lessons with here.
Your profile is your name, an optional photo and your timezone. Your tutors see your name and photo.
Keep your password secure. You are responsible for what happens through your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has used it.
4. Parents, Guardians and Under-18s
Every student is asked for their date of birth when they join. If the student is under 18, a parent or guardian who is themselves at least 18 must set up and supervise the account, gives us their own name and date of birth, and accepts these Terms on the student's behalf. The parent or guardian is responsible for everything done through the account, including agreeing lessons and paying the tutor. There is no minimum age for a student.
Your tutor is told whether the student is under 18 and, where a parent or guardian holds the account, that person's name — so they know they are teaching a child and who the responsible adult is. They are not shown either date of birth.
Arrangements for teaching a child — including any checks a tutor is required to hold — are between you and the tutor. We do not carry out those checks and do not represent that they have been done.
5. What Teacherwave Costs You
Nothing. There is no student fee, no membership, no subscription and no card to add. We do not charge you for using the Platform, for booking a lesson, or for anything else.
Your tutor pays us for the software they use. That is a matter between them and us, and it has no effect on what you pay them.
6. Paying Your Tutor
You pay your tutor directly. What you pay, when and how — bank transfer, PayPal, cash, or anything else they accept — is agreed between you and them, outside the Platform.
The money never passes through Teacherwave. We do not collect it, hold it, process it or take any share of it, and we never see it. Nothing about it is recorded on the Platform: there are no prices, payment records or payment details here.
Whether a lesson goes ahead is not tied to payment on the Platform. A lesson you ask for is booked when your tutor approves it (see section 8).
Your tutor may show you their own PayPal subscription button on Teacherwave. The subscription it starts is between you, your tutor and PayPal: the money goes to your tutor, Teacherwave is not a party to it, sees nothing of it, records nothing about it, and cannot refund, change or cancel it. You manage it in your PayPal account, and PayPal's own terms and privacy policy apply to it. If the button is there, it is because your tutor put it there; if it is not, ask your tutor how they would like to be paid.
7. What We Cannot Do About a Payment
Because no payment between you and your tutor reaches us, there is no transaction on our side to look at. We therefore cannot:
- refund you, in whole or in part, for any lesson;
- reverse, hold or recover a payment you have made;
- decide who is right in a disagreement about money;
- compensate you if a lesson does not happen or is not what you expected;
- guarantee anything about your tutor's conduct, ability or availability;
- refund, change or cancel a PayPal subscription you started from your tutor's payment page — we are not told about it and have no access to it.
Anything about money, a missed lesson, or the quality of teaching is between you and your tutor. We would like to help and genuinely cannot: we have no payment to act on and no standing in the arrangement.
This does not limit any rights you have against your tutor, including under consumer law. It describes what we are and are not able to do.
8. Booking, Approval and Cancellation
For a one-to-one lesson, you ask for a time from the hours your tutor has made available, at least twelve hours ahead. Asking does not hold the time. Your tutor approves the request, and at that point the time is reserved and the classroom is prepared. Until they do, another student may take the same hour. Your tutor may also book a lesson with you themselves, which is booked straight away.
If another lesson is booked for a time you had asked for, your request is declined and you are told the time has gone. You are not told who took it. A request nobody answers before its time expires on its own, and you are told that too.
Your tutor can reverse an approval they made in error. The lesson goes back to being a request and the time is released; you are told when that happens.
Each tutor sets how much notice they need to cancel a booked one-to-one lesson, and it is shown on their card in your list of tutors. Inside that window the Platform will not cancel for you and you should message your tutor instead. A request, which holds nothing, can be withdrawn at any time.
Group classes are booked and managed by your tutor. If your tutor puts you in a group, they schedule its classes, and each class is booked for you from the moment they create it: there is nothing for you to request or approve. You cannot book, move or cancel a group class, including your own place in a single class. If you cannot attend, message your tutor, who can take you out of that class.
A cancelled lesson keeps its record. Whether any money you have paid your tutor is returned is a matter for you and your tutor; we hold none of it.
9. Groups and Group Classes
A tutor may put you, with other students of theirs, into a group — several of their students taught, messaged and set work together. You cannot join or leave a group yourself; your tutor adds and removes members, and you can be in at most one group of any one tutor's at a time. Being added or removed changes three things:
- Your level. A group may carry a level, and if it does, that level is written onto every member. While you are in the group your level with that tutor is set on the group, not on you. When you leave, you keep the level you had.
- Your checklists. A group has its own shared checklists, ticked once for everybody. When you join a group, any individual checklists that tutor had given you are deleted and cannot be brought back; from then on you see the group's. When you leave, you stop seeing the group's checklists and your tutor can give you individual ones again.
- Your classes. When you join, you are put into every class of the group that has not yet started, unless you are already booked at that time. When you leave, you are withdrawn from every class that has not yet started, and past ones stay as they were.
Every group has a group chat, and everyone in the group can see it. The other members can see your name and everything you write there, and you can see theirs. The Platform tells you this on the day you are added. Anything you would rather say to your tutor alone belongs in your private thread with them, which the other members cannot see.
Tests set to a group are your own: your own paper to sit, your own marks, and they stay yours after the group ends. Group classes appear on your calendar and lessons list like any other lesson; section 8 explains why you cannot cancel one.
If your tutor archives a group, every member is taken out of it. If your tutor archives you (see section 14), you are taken out of all of their groups.
10. Your Tutor Is Independent
Your tutor is an independent professional running their own business. They are not our employee, worker or agent. We do not supervise their teaching, set what they charge, approve their materials or vet their qualifications.
Anything they tell you about their experience or credentials is their own statement. We do not verify it and make no representation about it.
A tutor may draft questions or a checklist with an AI assistant of their own and upload the result. What it produces is your tutor's material, checked by them; we play no part in it and send nothing to any AI service.
11. Conduct, the Classroom and Safeguarding
Use the Platform lawfully and treat your tutor with respect. Do not send unlawful, abusive or harmful content, and do not use the classroom or messaging to harass anyone.
Do not record a lesson yourself without your tutor's agreement, and do not share their teaching materials, or another student's messages, outside your own study.
The Platform records lessons held in the classroom. That is separate from the rule above, which is about you making your own recording. Recording starts automatically for every lesson, including group classes, and nobody in the room — not you, not your tutor — can pause or stop it. Recordings are kept for safeguarding, security and quality purposes. Neither you nor your tutor can play back, download or share one — there is no such feature — and they are handled as described in the Privacy Policy.
If something happens on the Platform that concerns you — particularly anything involving a child's safety — tell us. We may investigate and may suspend an account while we do.
12. Liability
The Platform is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free.
We are not liable for the teaching you receive, for your tutor's conduct, or for anything arising from your arrangement with them, including money. We are not a party to it.
Nothing here excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, and nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Subject to the paragraph above, and because we charge you nothing, our liability to you in connection with the Platform is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
13. Your Data, Your Records and Your Progress
Our Privacy Policy explains what personal data we hold about you and why. Your tutor can see the information needed to teach you: your name and photo, your lessons with them, the work they set you, your results and your attendance, whether you are under 18, and the name of a parent or guardian who holds your account.
A tutor cannot see your lessons or records with a different tutor.
Your progress page shows you, for each tutor you are currently connected to, everything they record about you: the level they have given you, how far through their checklists you are, your marked assessments and their feedback, your report cards, and your lesson and attendance figures. Your tutor sees the same page for you. The one thing you do not see is a note your tutor keeps for themselves — beside your level, or on your attendance for a lesson. Anything they mark about whether you attended is shown to you.
You may connect your own Google Calendar. That is optional. If you do, your booked lessons are written into a calendar the Platform creates in your Google account, naming your tutor, and you can disconnect at any time. The Privacy Policy says what is sent to Google.
14. Being Archived, and Ending Your Account
A tutor may take you off their active list ("archive" you). If they do, you keep access to everything you have done with them and can still message them, but you cannot book new lessons with that tutor, any request you were waiting on is declined, you are taken out of all of their groups, and you are withdrawn from any of their group classes that have not yet started. Lessons already booked go ahead unless your tutor cancels them. Your other tutors are unaffected, and your tutor can restore you later.
You can ask us to delete your account at any time. See our Privacy Policy for what is removed and what we are obliged to keep.
If your tutor closes their own account, the records you shared with them go with it. We cannot restore them.
15. General Legal Terms and Governing Law
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
These Student Terms, together with the Terms and Conditions and the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between us in respect of your use of the Platform as a student.
These Terms are governed by Greek law, and the courts of Ioannina, Greece have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them — without prejudice to any mandatory protection you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live, including the right to bring a claim in your own courts where that law gives you one.
